The Forgotten Ones: Helping Children Impacted by Addiction

Presented by Dr. John Dyben DHSc, MCAP, CMHP

FREE Virtual Workshop for CE Credits

Workshop Overview

Like nearly all other major chronic illnesses, addiction is a disease that affects and affected by everyone who is part of the family system. Children growing up in these family systems are dramatically impacted but rarely receive the care that they need. This presentation will provide participants with an understanding of the dynamics of family systems, how they are impacted by addiction, and how these impact children’s beliefs about themselves and the world around them. We will then illustrate how to talk to children about addiction in ways that are developmentally appropriate and how to help children to communicate their experiences, thoughts, and feelings in ways that foster healthy empowerment.
