Charlotte Treatment Center Intern Spotlight

Kaylee is interning at Dilworth Center during her final year of pursuing her Master of Social Work at UNC Charlotte. Kaylee graduated from Elon University in 2018 with a B.A. in Psychology and minors in Art and Neuroscience. After graduation, Kaylee worked as a research specialist at Duke University Medical Center in the Psychiatry unit focusing on Alzheimer’s and dementia research. Prior to Dilworth, Kaylee interned with Thompson Child and Family Focus specializing in early childhood mental and behavioral health. After graduation, she intends to pursue licensure to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist.

Though my work experiences are diverse, I feel in many ways they have brought me to where I am supposed to be. I’ve had an innate desire to understand and help people for as long as I can remember. Through my personal, educational, and work experiences I have an understanding of the contributing factors of addiction and the barriers that often prevent individuals from seeking support. I don’t think I’ve come across a person who has not been impacted by addiction in some way. Yet, there’s a dichotomy between the prevalence of people impacted by the disease and the feelings of shame and isolation that typically accompany it. Though seeking help is scary, Dilworth Center is a source of light for those who need it. Dilworth is a unique place comprised of passionate and dedicated staff members. I feel so fortunate to work in such a dynamic, collaborative, and supportive setting.
