What’s so great about Valentine’s Day? For some people, it’s a day to celebrate love and affection. For others, it’s a day to over indulge and feel sorry for yourself. But for people in recovery from addiction, Valentine’s Day can be a trigger. All those hearts and flowers can remind you of what you’ve lost, or what you’re missing out on.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Valentine’s Day can actually be a great day to focus on your recovery.

Here’s why:

1. It’s a day to remember how far you’ve come When you’re in the thick of addiction, it’s easy to feel like you’ll never get better. But when you’re in recovery, you can look back at how far you’ve come and feel proud of yourself. Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to reflect on your journey and remind yourself how far you’ve come.

2. It’s a day to focus on self-love In our society, we’re taught that we need someone else to complete us. But that’s not true. The most important relationship you’ll ever have is the one with yourself. And Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to focus on self-love.

3. It’s a day to celebrate your sobriety It’s important to celebrate your sobriety, no matter how small the victory. Valentine’s Day is the perfect day to do just that. Whether you’ve been sober for one day or one hundred days, take the time to celebrate your sobriety.

4. It’s a day to reach out to others One of the best things about being in recovery is that you’re not alone. There are millions of people all over the world who are on the same journey.
